Drilling A 100
Foot Well
Water: Essential for
Life

Jacobs Well Drilling and Pump Service from
Manchester, Tennessee arrived at 8:11 am
with their drill rig and support truck.

If you wonder why water well drilling is not
inexpensive, the rig and support truck
represent a million dollars in capital investment.

The spot I picked for the well was on the steep
slope above where the house will be.
The idea is to gravity feed the water from a
reservoir in the to be built pump house
and then boost pump the water in both the house and
Sunshine Cottage.

Ready to drill. The minimum charge in our part of
the world is for 100 feet.

Glory be, we hit water at 35 feet, about 9 gallons
per minute. The well was reamed and cased
to 34 feet, the first section of casing is already
in the well.

Moving the second section of casing into position to
weld the seam.

Welding the casing. After the casing was fully
inserted the bottom section at the
end was perforated with an expanding bladed mandrel.

After the casing was installed we drilled to 100
feet, flow tested the well and then
capped the casing. We are ready to pack up and move
out.

From 34 feet down we hammer drilled through solid
limestone. The casing is 6 inch steel.
The total process took less than 4 hours. Cost, less
than $2,200. Thanks for a job well
done, not pun intended.

Pam and I installed our Simple Pump as a hand pump.
The installation took us 1 hour 20
minutes to put the pump at 91.5 feet. Five
stokes of the handle and we had water.
The pump will be solar motorized soon. Learn more
about the
benefits of Simple Pump.
